Praying for our Country

1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NIV) “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”

We are living in tumultuous times. There are plenty of examples to support this statement not only from the United States but around the world as well. However, rather than creating a list of events and realities, I wanted to describe the internal sense that I have as something like being stretched like in a child’s game of crack the whip. It’s like a piece of metal that is put under incredible stress due to an immense weight that it is carrying. As those who are called to pray for our world, the external signs as well as the internal witness of the Holy Spirit should be enough to catapult us into a higher dimension of prayer. Now is the time! Our country is at a crossroad, and God’s people need to step up in their spiritual leadership and pray until breakthrough happens. If we don’t listen to the call at this moment, then the tenuous ground that we are standing on may fall out from underneath us. The Spirit is calling us to pray, and God’s people are answering. Starting on September 20th a call has been issued through the Spirit to various intercessory prayer ministries to fast and pray and act. I invite you to visit www.prayandact.org and get off the sidelines. Don’t wait until the fourth quarter. Get in the prayer game for our country and its direction and destiny.

So why are we praying for our country? The bottom line is that we pray so that God’s kingdom will continue to advance in the hearts and lives of Americans and those around the world who are impacted through the ministries the Lord has raised up to reach them. God, our Savior, not only wants all people saved, he also wants them to come to a knowledge of the truth. The truth is that life begins at conception and every life is priceless in value. The truth is that marriage is between one man and one woman, and God’s plan is that it lasts for life. The truth is that God’s laws are higher than any man-made law, and our country will be blessed only if we acknowledge it. Let’s join together for the next 40 days and pray and fast for our country. Its destiny hangs in the balance. Do you see it? Then let’s agree together to pray for our nation.
